Mountain hikes
Tradition – Quality – Activity
The options for tours and activities from and to Spiterstulen are many. Majestic mountains and exciting glaciers surround Visdalen on all sides, and as many as 17 peaks over 2300 meters can be climbed from Spiterstulen on day trips. During the summer, guided tours are organized daily to the “Eventyrisen” on the Svellnosbreen glacier, and in fair weather, both Galdhøpiggen and Glittertind can be safely climbed without a guide.
Spiterstulen is centrally located for hikers trekking from cabin to cabin and is a natural stop for both winter and summer travelers. The journey up or down Visdalen is for many the beginning or end of yet another mountain adventure in Jotunheimen. Remember that you must always be secured with a rope and go together with experienced glacier guides when crossing a glacier!
- Don’t think about walking as fast and as far as possible. These tours are best suited for those who have an eye for detail.
- Try to keep track of where you are on the map.
- Walk downhill carefully, paying attention to loose or slippery rocks.
- Snowdrifts can make the descent easy and fun, but they must be used with caution.
- In uphill terrain, walk steadily and rest with each step.
HAPPY HIKING!
